SPEECH
Help Take our Team to NSDA Nationals in Richmond, Virginia - June 16 - 20, 2026!
Attending the National Speech & Debate Association Nationals 2026 is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for students to compete on the most prestigious stage in speech and debate. Qualifying means they already rank among the best, and Nationals challenges them to rise even higher. Supporting students on their journey to NSDA Nationals 2026 is an investment in future leaders — in young people who are learning how to think critically, speak courageously, and engage thoughtfully with the world.
For them, it’s not just a trip.
It’s a milestone.
It’s a platform.
It’s an opportunity to rise.

The Speech Team is an afterschool program that gives students an opportunity to compete in a variety of events that are designed to engage them in communication, critical thinking, creativity, and collaboration.

We are looking forward to the second year of the CCMS Speech & Debate Team! This year (25-26) we are debuting a program in Lincoln-Douglas Debate, along with all of the speech and interpretive events that we offered last year.
-
Weekly attendance at practice is mandatory, so students need to be able to dedicate themselves to this activity and have a clear schedule every Thursday. There will also be homework--writing, memorizing, and researching that will be required at times between practices.
-
Participation in at least 4 tournaments a year is mandatory.
Tournaments take place on weekends and allow the students an opportunity to present their work and compete with other middle school students. Online tournaments will be hosted at CCMS, where students will compete together as a team. -
All student members will also be part of an honors society associated with participation in speech and debate through the National Speech & Debate Association. This membership follows them through high school and includes honors cords at 8th and 12th grade graduations.
-
Speech programs are not common at middle schools in our area, outside of private schools and a few charter schools, and this team will ensure that our students are afforded every opportunity to grow and have fun in this academic sport. CCHS does have a high school team that students can advance to when they complete 8th grade.
